Remembering the late Adrian Baxter 1942-2015, musician and active community member.
Adrian was one of the founder members of the Bolster Moor Community Association, (BMCA) when it was formed around the Millennium. Adrian had a very good knowledge of all things local, it was the mark of a man who got involved in the community.
For many years Adrian compiled the Can Can – our local news letter – a task easier said than done. Getting material in before deadlines is not one of Bolster Moor’s strong points! Somehow though, he magicked it all together and produced it three and sometimes four times a year. It was always well received by local residents.
Adrian also volunteered to be Chairman of the Community Association. Again, an undertaking not many people were rushing to fill. For a number of years Adrian chaired the monthly meetings in a professional manner, always being well prepared.
We also have Adrian to thank for providing the Wind Band quartet when we first decided to hold a Community Carol Sing. This grew in popularity each year, and ,we hope, for many years to come.
Different sections of the community have also benefitted from the fundraising race nights which Adrian helped organise. If anyone wanted a race night, it was ” Ask Adrian, he’ll know where the boards and sheets are!”
Then there were the fortnightly quizzes Adrian compiled for the Golcar Lily, the domino league, and the Tuesday night wind band rehearsals, followed by a pint in the club, and the last one closer to home.
In Adrian’s memory, the BMCA planted a tree in the community garden, a tree which will blossom every year, as a fitting tribute to Robert Adrian Baxter, a musician and active Bolster Moor Community Member.
