Centurion Racing – October update

One month on and we have some exciting news regarding fundraising. We have now raised roughly a third of the funds we need to attend the World Finals in Abu Dhabi in November. We have had a number of generous donations to our GoFundMe campaign (gofundme.com/centurionracingworldfinals) and a local company, Aflex Hose Limited, have made a significant contribution to our campaign funds. Aflex Hose, the world’s leading manufacturer of PTFE flexible hose, are now our title sponsors for the event and we have developed a new logo for the event which reflects this. Fundraising is still obviously a priority for the team and if you can support the team in any way, large or small, it would be much appreciated. Email laurence@centurionracing for details of sponsorship packages.

If you haven’t seen our advert yet at the Elland Rex cinema, please consider going there for your next trip to the movies. It is one of the oldest purpose built cinemas in the UK and a wonderful part of our local heritage. Their current screenings are listed at http://elland.nm-cinemas.co.uk/elland/now/. Our advert was created by a member of the team, Grant Torrington. His work is so professional that it does not look out of place when shown alongside big budget, commercial advertisements. We think our car looks fantastic on the big screen and we hope that you do too.

We are continuing to work hard to develop our World Finals entry. As part of this, we have been forging links with Huddersfield University. They have worked with us to analyse the wear to the bearings from our cars after different levels of usage and are mentoring us in the use of ANSYS software used to analyse the aerodynamic flows created by our designs, to help us determine which part of our updated designs have a beneficial effect. Huddersfield University have a number of open days across October and November which provide an opportunity to talk with the staff and meet with current students. For more information go to https://www.hud.ac.uk/open-days/.

We have not only been modelling car designs but we have built a number of different prototype cars for physical testing. We have put in a lot of time at the test track with our prototype cars and the track times we are achieving are looking very
promising.

The Venue at Bowers Mill in Barkisland have kindly agreed to host a fundraising event for the team. It is taking place on Wednesday 16 October and should be a very good evening with catering provided by Erics, Huddersfield’s premier restaurateur and live music from the award winning international saxophonist, Ellie Sax. You will also be able to race your friends on our F1 in Schools track and take part in our auction. Tickets cost £30, call to reserve yours on 01422 822217 or email admin@rishworth-school.co.uk. Come and join us for the evening.

Thank you to M & M Sykes Dairymen and Farmers, for distributing our newsletters to your doorstep, a family run farm providing fresh local milk to the Huddersfield area.

Thank you from Laurence, Erica, Lara and Grant. See you at the finish line!
